WACO, Texas- Baylor head track and field coach Todd Harbour announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Friday.
"This group is a great collection of student-athletes from a wide-variety of events," head coach Todd Harbour said. "The class is still a work in progress, but this is a good start. To sign this quality group of individuals in November gets our staff really excited."
The class features three women and two men, including four Texas athletes and two from Waco.
The women's class is made up of two sprinters and a middle distance runner. Taylor Bennett of Spring, Texas, and Klein Collins High School finished third in the 100 meters and was fifth in the 200-meters at the 2014 Texas 5A state meet. Meanwhile, Kiana Horton of Converse, Texas, and Judson High School is the reigning runner-up in the 200-meter event at the Texas 5A state meet. The lone non-Texan out of the group, Amanda Dillon (Springdale, Ark.), has starred in everything from the 100 to the 800 meters at Har-Ber High School.
"We are losing a lot on the women's side, but these three young ladies will definitely fill a huge need," Harbour said. "Amanda, Kiana and Taylor are all going to come right in and be able to contribute immediately."
On the men's side, high jumper Blaine Listach and sprinter Wil London III are both Waco natives. Listach out of Rapoport Academy won the Texas 1A state title in the high jump in 2014 and boasts a personal-best jump of 7-2. London III, out of Waco High School, won the Texas 4A Region I meet in the 400 meters and then went on to place third at the state meet.
"We don't lose as much on the men's side this year, but Blaine and Wil are going to come in and help our program," Harbour said. "We are excited to keep these two Central Texas athletes here at home. That is a big deal and says a lot about the program."
