The RUNDOWN NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma Sooners' Kimmy Gardiner had 17 kills on a .615 hitting percentage, and her team hit .331 in OU's 25-21, 24-26, 26-16, 25-21 victory over Baylor Saturday night at McCasland Field House.
The Bears dropped to 11-10 overall on the season and 1-5 in Big 12 play, despite hitting 42 points above their average coming into the match at .254. Baylor hit .316 in the second set to even the match before intermission, but couldn't overcome a slow start in set three, and a 10-4 run by the Sooners midway through set four.
OU built a 11-5 lead in set three that the Bears couldn't overcome, and after BU led 11-9 in set four, the Sooners scored 10 of the next 14 points to jump out to a 20-15 lead. The Sooners' Madison Ward had 16 kills and Kierra Holst had 13 to accompany Gardiner's impressive offensive output.
Andie Malloy hit .400 and led the match with 19 kills for Baylor in the losing effort, including her 12th double-double of the season while leading all players with 18 digs. Sam Hill added a career-high 13 kills for Baylor and Katie Staiger had a dozen in the loss.
Oklahoma has won five-straight matches over Baylor and is 21-4 all-time over the Bears in Norman.
