THE RUNDOWN
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Baylor men's tennis went a combined 5-1 on the first day of the USTA/ITA Regional Championships at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Bears were 3-1 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles action to kick-off the four-day event.
In singles, the 112th-ranked Tony Lupieri powered past Alejandro Sanoja of UT Pan American, 6-2, 6-2, to advance to the round of 32.
Both Felipe Rios and Vince Schneider had to tally wins in third sets. Rios dispatched of TCU's Trey Daniel, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2, and then Schneider took down Jolan Cailleau of Texas Tech, 7-6, 5-7, 7-6.
BU's only loss of the day came as the 26th-ranked Diego Galeano fell to Michael Riechman of Texas, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
To close out the day, Baylor's first-time doubles pairings registered two victories.
Lupieri and Rios bested Carlos Arbiza and Daniel Echeverry of UTA, 8-3. Meanwhile, Galeano and Schneider downed Connor Curry and Francisco Zambon, 8-4.
HIGHLIGHTS

WHAT'S NEXT
On Sunday, Lupieri will face TCU's Guillermo Nunez, Schneider battles ninth-seeded and 87th-ranked Arturs Kazijevs of SMU and Rios battles Srikar Alla of Rice. All of those matches will start at 10:30 a.m.
In doubles, Lupieri and Rios will tangle with ACU's Marco Bensley and Paul Domanski, while Galeano and Schneider face Lamar's seventh-seeded Michael Feucht and Nikita Lis. Both of those matches will begin at 3 p.m. Galeano will play a consolation singles match versus UTA's Echeverry at 9 a.m. Sunday.
