WACO, Texas - Baylor' 29th-ranked men's tennis team continues Big 12 Conference play at home as it hosts the 13th-ranked Texas Longhorns on Wednesday, April 4 at BU's Hurd Tennis Center at 6 p.m.
Baylor enters the contest 12-8 overall and 0-1 in Big 12 action after dropping its Big 12 opener to 30th-ranked Texas Tech on Saturday, 6-1. The Longhorns, voted by the coaches to win the conference crown, is 14-6 on the season and 1-1 in league play. Texas opened league play with two home matches as well. The Longhorns lost to No. 21 Oklahoma, 5-2, and defeated 75th-ranked Oklahoma State, 5-2.
Baylor is led on the season by 21st-ranked freshman Mate Zsiga's 28-5 season mark; he is 14-2 in dual match play and saw his nine-match win streak snapped when he lost to Texas Tech's Gonzalo Escobar. Junior Roberto Maytin, BU's other ranked singles player at No. 87, owns the team's second-best singles record at 19-13. Maytin and freshman Marko Krickovic are ranked No. 42 in doubles with a 5-2 record, but haven't played dual match competition together yet.
Texas is led by two ranked singles players and two rated doubles teams. Freshman Soren Hess-Olesen is the Longhorns' highest-ranked singles player at No. 64 and Daniel Whitehead, a junior, is No. 97. Sophomore David Holiner teams with junior Chris Camillone to rank No. 27 in doubles while a pair of juniors, Ben Chen and Whitehead are rated No. 50.
