WACO, Texas - Baylor men's tennis team hosts matches at its Hurd Tennis Center for the first time since March 6 when Prairie View A&M and Abilene Christian visit the campus.
Baylor will play its second double-header of the season with Saturday. March 24 matches against Prairie View A&M at 1 p.m. and Abilene Christian at 6 p.m.
The Bears, currently ranked No. 35, are coming off an upset victory over seventh-ranked Kentucky. Baylor snapped the Wildcats' 14-match home win streak with the 4-3 victory on Monday in Lexington, Ky.
Baylor is led on the season by 28th-ranked freshman Mate Zsiga's 27-4 season mark; he is 13-1 in dual match play and is coming off an upset of fifth-ranked Eric Quigley of Kentucky. Zsiga has won a team-best eight straight matches. Junior Roberto Maytin, BU's other ranked singles player at No. 82, owns the team's second-best singles record at 18-12. Maytin and freshman Marko Krickovic are ranked No. 46 in doubles with a 5-2 record, but haven't played dual match competition together yet. In addition, Maytin and Zsiga are rated No. 78 with an 11-5 record.
Baylor leads the series with Prairie View A&M, 3-0. The Panthers are 4-11 on the season after their most-recent loss at SMU, 6-0 (doubles were not played). Abilene Christian sports a 13-6 overall record and has two common opponents with the Bears. ACU lost at Kentucky 7-0 and lost to St. Edward's 5-4. Baylor downed the Wildcats 4-3 and defeated St. Edward's 6-1. ACU is led by Hans Hach's 16-2 record, all at the No. 1 position. The Bears lead the series 7-3 vs. ACU and are 2-0 under Baylor head coach Matt Knoll.
