CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- In its first-ever matchup against Baylor, Auburn posted a 4-1 victory on Saturday night in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
The 16th-ranked Tigers, now 7-1 on the season advanced to play the Texas Longhorns while the seventh-ranked Bears fell to 4-3 overall. Baylor will have a quick turnaround after finishing play late Saturday night and will play Big 12 foe, Texas A&M at 8 a.m. (CST) on Sunday.
The bright spot for the Bears was taking the doubles point for the second straight day. Marko Krickovic and Robert Verzaal posted an 8-2 win on court two while Roberto Maytin and Mate Zsiga claimed a 9-8 victory at No. 1 doubles to earn the point for Baylor.
The Bears were not able to get on the scoreboard in singles as Auburn swept two-set matches on courts 2, 3, 5 and 6 to earn the four points needed for the win. Twenty-fifth ranked Mate Zsiga, at No. 1, and Diego Galeano, playing at No. 4, were playing third sets when action was suspended.
