WACO, Texas - After racing to a win at the UTA Season Opener on Saturday, sophomore Brad Miles was rewarded with the Big 12 Men's Runner of the Week honor, announced by conference officials.
Miles, who out-distanced second-place teammate Derwin Graham, became the first runner from the Baylor men's team to earn the honor since Rob Morrow in 2006. Miles helped his team to the first team title of the season, placing second at the Bear Twilight Invitational in the opening week and following it up with a team win at UTA.
The Hatfield, Pa., native covered the four-mile UTA course at Vandergiff Park in 20:26, becoming the Bears' top finisher in each of the first two meets.
In Big 12 history, Miles becomes just the fifth from the Baylor men's team to win the honor. Morrow was the last in 2006, and was preceded by Bo Price (2004), Matt Chance (2001) and Ferenc Bekesi (2001). The last Baylor student-athlete on either side to win was Nichole Jones and Erin Bedell each in 2008.
Along with Miles, Kansas senior Rebeka Stowe took home the women's honor for the week.
Baylor will be back at home next weekend, hosting the Baylor Invitational on Sept. 17 at the BU Intramural Fields. Meet and course information can be found on the cross country page at www.BaylorBears.com.
