TULSA, Okla. - Baylor men's tennis ended its run in the main draw of the ITA Men's All-American Championships on Thursday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Junior Roberto Maytin had a long day of tennis as he played two singles matches and a doubles match on the day. He split his singles matches and, teamed with Marko Krickovic, lost in doubles in a tiebreaker.
In the round of 64 in singles, the 43rd-ranked Maytin fought off three match points in the third set to defeat 35th-ranked Clay Thompson of UCLA. After prevailing in the first set, 6-3, Maytin lost the second set 6-4. Thompson had two match points at 5-4 in the third and was up 6-3 in the tiebreaker and all three times Maytin rallied, eventually taking the match by posting an 8-6 tiebreaker score.
In the second round, Maytin lost to Oklahoma's Peerakit Siributwong, 6-2, 7-5, thus ending his run in the singles bracket.
Maytin and Krickovic, ranked No. 23 nationally, took on 13th-ranked Christopher Aumueller and Benedikt Lindheim of Nebraska in the doubles round of 32. After falling behind 3-6, the Bears rallied, winning four straight games, and eventually forced a tiebreaker. However, the Husker duo proved too much as they won the match 9-8 after prevailing in the tiebreaker 8-6.
Selected Bears will play in two upcoming Texas Futures Tournaments in Austin and Mansfield before competing in the ITA Texas Regional Tournament, Oct. 21-24, in College Station.
