The Baylor soccer team (7-3-1, 0-2) will look to pick up its first conference victory, hosting a pair of conference games against Nebraska and No. 22 Colorado. The Bears will face the Huskers (8-3-0, 1-1) on Friday at 7:00 p.m., then play host to the Buffaloes (5-4-1, 1-0-1) for a Sunday matchup at 1:00 p.m.
"We like playing at home and we have to protect our own turf," head coach Marci Jobson said. "I think this young team gained valuable experience last week, and we have had great practices this week."
Baylor is coming off a pair of road losses to No. 13 Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. The Bears lead the conference in goals (34) and goals per game (3.09), while also leading the league in shutouts with eight. BU heads into the weekend ranking fifth in the country in shutout percentage (0.727). The Bears have outscored their opponents 34-8 so far and are led by a pair of sophomores, Lisa Sliwinski (7 goals, 4 assists) and Hanna Gilmore (5 goals, 3 assists) who have both posted career-high points totals so far.
Nebraska is coming off last weekend's 2-1 victory over Texas and 2-1 loss to No. 6 Texas A&M in Lincoln. Sophomore Morgan Marlborough has maintained her spot as the Big 12's leading scorer. She enters this week with 10 goals and 23 points to rank third and fourth nationally. The Huskers lead the all-time series, 12-5-1.
Colorado enters the weekend fresh off a 2-1 win at No. 5 Texas A&M before returning home for a 0-0 tie against Texas. Kym Lowry leads the team in assists (four) and points (eight). The Buffaloes have the all-time series lead, 6-5-3.
Friday will be Go Pink In October at Betty Lou Mays Field, as the first 200 fans will receive free pink t-shirts. It is also Youth Soccer Night, with all kids 14 and under getting in free if they wear their soccer jerseys. As always it will be Family Fun Night, with fans getting four tickets, four hot dogs and four drinks for $20.
