Complete National Football Foundation 2010 Hampshire Honor Society Release

DALLAS - Baylor's Jason Lamb and Joe Pawelek have been named to the 2010 Hampshire Honor Society by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame, the organization announced Tuesday.

The 2010 NFF Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a 3.2 grade-point average or better. A total of 620 players from 246 schools qualified for membership in the society's fourth year, an 80-percent increase from the inaugural class in 2007.

The NFF Hampshire Honor Society capitalizes on the NFF's current National Scholar-Athlete program, greatly expanding the number of scholar-athletes the NFF can recognize each year and further strengthening the organization's leadership role in encouraging academic performance by the student- athletes who play football at the more than 700 college and universities with football programs nationwide. Qualifications for membership in the NFF Hampshire Honor Society include:

• Being a starter or a significant substitute in one's last year of eligibility at an accredited NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III, or an NAIA college or university;
• Achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and
• Meeting all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.

Last month, Pawelek was among 10 area football players named to the 2010 Collegiate Gridiron Club of Dallas Scholar-Athletes list. An NFF Scholar-Athlete in 2009, Pawelek was a finalist for the 2009 Campbell Trophy (considered the "Academic Heisman"). A two-time All-American and two-time Academic All-American (ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA), he finished his career with 422 tackles - the 18th-highest total in NCAA history (since 2000) and second all-time in Baylor history to Mike Singletary (662). The four-year starter from San Antonio led Baylor with 109 tackles as a senior and his 9.1 average-per-game ranked second in the Big 12 Conference. Pawelek graduated in December 2009 with a degree in finance and economics and a 3.71 GPA.

A native of Richardson, Texas, Lamb was a two-time coaches All-Big 12 honorable mention selection. He finished his career with 150 tackles, 9.5 sacks and three blocked kicks. He was a four-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree and eight-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll. A former tight end, Lamb graduated in December 2009 with degrees in management and human resource management.

Lamb and Pawelek were named Baylor's Co-Defensive Most Valuable Player for the 2009 season. Both players signed undrafted free agent contracts in April - Pawelek with the Seattle Seahawks and Lamb with the New York Jets.
