Despite winning just one of their last 13 matches and going through a mid-season coaching change, Texas Tech has been able to notch set-wins against some of the top teams in the Big 12. In the last four matches, the Red Raiders have beaten Colorado, as well as taking one set from Missouri, No. 7 Texas and No. 16 Iowa State.
Outside hitter Amanda Dowdy has been the main offensive weapon this season for Tech with 410 kills, while taking more than double the attacks of any teammate. The next highest total on the squad is Miara Cave with 165 kills. Setter Karlyn Meyers averages 9.02 assists per set, and has 47 kills on the season.
On defense, the Red Raiders put up a formidable block with middle blocker Barbara Conceicao. Conceicao leads the team with 97 blocks and an average of 1.07 per set. Jackie Vincent leads the back row with 332 digs on the season and a digs-per-set average of 3.35.
THE TOP FIVE
- Baylor enters the regular season finale with back-to-back losses to Missouri and at No. 5 Nebraska. The losses came on the heels of two road wins for the Bears at Kansas State and Kansas. The match will also be Baylor's senior night, honoring its four seniors: Ashley Byrd, Ashlie Christenson, Elizabeth Graham and Caitlyn Trice.
- Senior Caitlyn Trice solidified her spot as one of the best liberos in Baylor history. With her 30th consecutive 10-dig match, Trice moved up to second all-time in single-season Big 12 history. Her total of 592 trails only Ashley Mass' 646 in 2008. With eight digs against Tech, Trice would the first BU player and second in the Big 12 to surpass 600 for a season.
- Baylor's back-row defense is ranked second in the NCAA in digs per set, averaging 18.80. BU also leads the Big 12 by a huge margin, posting more than two digs per set better than any Big 12 team. Baylor's current total of 2,143 is the fourth highest single-season total ever. The team single-season record is 2,673, set in 1993.
- Middle blockers Elizabeth Graham and Torri Campbell have helped carry Baylor both offensively and defensively in Big 12 play. In league matches, Graham leads the team in kills (218), hitting percentage (.319) and blocks (87). Meanwhile, Campbell is second in all three categories racking up 182 kills, hitting .286 and recording 65 blocks in BU's 19 conference matches.
- After a 45-9 start to the all-time series in favor of Texas Tech, the Bears have won 11 consecutive meetings. The last Red Raider win in the series came on Oct. 27, 2004 in five sets.
