Epperson Named Academic All-America

TOWSON, Md. - Baylor senior punter Derek Epperson has been named to the ESPN Academic All-America football second team, as announced Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).Epperson's award marks the third consecutive year a Baylor football player has been named an Academic All-American. Baylor players who have been honored during the Big 12 era are Ty Atteberry (1996), Daniel Sepulveda (2005, 2006), Joe Pawelek (2008, 2009) and Epperson (2010).
A native of Southlake, Texas, Epperson graduated in August with a double major in management/MIS. He was a first-team academic all-district selection in each of the last two seasons, joining Daniel Sepulveda and Joe Pawelek as the only Baylor players to earn first-team all-district honors multiple times since 2004.
Epperson ranks second in the Big 12 and 23rd nationally with a 44.2-yards-per-punt average. His career punting average of 42.8 ranks third in program history and he's second all-time at Baylor with 49 career punts of 50 or more yards. Epperson earned Big 12 Special Teams Football Player of the Week honors after punting four times for a 56.8-yard average in Baylor's win at Texas on Oct. 30.
Baylor (7-5, 4-4 Big 12) has completed its regular season and is bowl eligible for the first time since 1995. The Bears are expected to go to their first bowl game since the 1994 Alamo Bowl.
