Competitive Cheer Completes Mock Meet

WACO, Texas - Baylor's newest varsity sport got its inaugural season off to an unofficial start when competitive cheer held a mock meet Sunday at the Ferrell Center.

"It was a good practice run for us to get the jitters out and work through some kinks," head coach Karry Forsythe said. "There are a few things that I was a little disappointed in, but overall I think the girls did a great job. As athletes, they are really pushing through some bumps and bruises, and they overcame a lot of adversity today so I'm really proud of them."

Baylor scored 38.784 out of a possible 40 points in the Compulsories event. The Bears scored 9.74 in the Stunt heat, 9.4 in the Pyramid, 9.8 in the Basket Toss and 9.84 in Tumbling Compulsory.

In the Stunt event, Baylor scored a 25.965 out of a possible 27.689 points. The team received scores of 8.81 out of 9.4 in heat one, 8.386 out of 9.276 in heat two and 8.773 out of 9.013 in the final heat.

The team scored 28.05 out of a possible 28.35 points in the Pyramid event. That score brought the Bears running total to 92.803 for the first half of the meet.

The Bears scored 27.0 out of a possible 30 points in the Basket Toss event. The team received scores of 9.4 in heat one, 9.0 in heat two and 8.6 in heat three.

Baylor scored a 44.792 out of 51.85 possible points in the Tumbling event. The Bears received scores of 7.92 out of 8.35 in the Double heat, 8.317 out of 8.45 in the Triple, 7.9 out of 8.1 in the Quad, 8.1 out of 8.85 in the Ariel, 8.6 out of 8.85 in the Six Elements Single Pass and 3.95 out of 9.25 in the Open Single Pass.

The team scored 97.78 out of a possible 103.294 in the Team Routine, bringing the Bears' final score for the mock meet to 262.374.

Baylor competitive cheer opens its regular season at Fairmont State on Dec. 3. The next time the Bears compete at the Ferrell Center is Jan. 23 against Oregon.
