After starting the conference season 3-5, Missouri is 8-2 over its last 10 Big 12 matches, including a 3-1 win at then-No. 12 Iowa State. The Tigers had a six-match winning streak snapped in their last match, a 3-0 sweep at the hands of surging No. 8 Texas.
Missouri has four offensive players averaging at least 2.00 kills per set, but their main offensive weapon is 2009 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Paola Ampudia. The outside hitter is averaging 4.05 kills per set and has taken 263 more total attempts than any of her teammates. MU also has a five-time freshman of the week honoree setting the offense in Molly Kreklow, who is ranked second in the league at 11.62 assists per set.
Defensively, libero Caitlyn Vann is ranked second in the Big 12 in digs per set at 5.09. Four other defensive players average at least 2.00 dps. At the net, middle blocker Brittney Brimmage leads MU at 1.03 blocks per set.
THE TOP FIVE
- Baylor (15-13, 8-9) returns home to the Ferrell Center after back-to-back wins against both of the Big 12's Kansas schools on the road. The Bears beat Kansas State last Saturday 3-1, then took down the Jayhawks on Wednesday, 3-1. The wins moved BU into sole possession of sixth place in the conference standings heading into the match with Missouri.
- Senior Caitlyn Trice solidified her spot as one of the best liberos in Baylor history. With 15 digs against Kansas, Trice broke the all-time Baylor record for digs in a single season. Her current total of 559 leaves her just 28 digs shy of the all-time Big 12 single-season record of 587 set by Iowa State's Ashley Mass last season.
- Baylor's back-row defense is ranked second in the NCAA in digs per set, averaging 18.74. BU also leads the Big 12 by a huge margin, posting nearly two digs per set more than any Big 12 team. With 69 digs against KU, Baylor topped the 2,000-dig mark for the first time in the rally-scoring era and only the sixth time ever. The team single-season record is 2,673, set in 1993.
- Middle blockers Elizabeth Graham and Torri Campbell have helped carry Baylor both offensively and defensively in Big 12 play. In league matches, Graham leads the team in kills (198), hitting percentage (.320) and blocks (80). Meanwhile, Campbell is second in all three categories racking up 165 kills, hitting .280 and recording 58 blocks in BU's 17 conference matches.
- Despite a 3-1 loss earlier this season at Missouri, Baylor has won five of the last eight meetings, including three of the last four at the Ferrell Center.
