Kansas State enters the match with a 4-11 conference record. After winning three of their first five Big 12 matches, the Wildcats have been unable to get back on track, losing nine of their last 10 in the league. During that stretch, however, six of KSU's nine losses have come at the hands of top-15 teams in Iowa State, Nebraska and Texas.
The Wildcats main strength is their net defense with middle blockers Alex Muff, Kaitlynn Pelger and Kathleen Ludwig. As a team, KSU is ranked third in the conference in blocks per set at 2.41, led by fifth-ranked Muff at 1.24 bps. Pelger averages 0.90 and Ludwig is at 0.86 to lead the Wildcats.
Offensively, senior JuliAnne Chisholm leads the way with a team-best 268 kills and 2.98 kills per set. Sophomore Caitlyn Donahue sets the offense for K-State, averaging 9.34 assists per set, while the Wildcats are hitting just .156 on the season as a team.
THE TOP FIVE
- After defeating Texas A&M in five sets at the Ferrell Center, Baylor (13-13, 6-9) rode that momentum into the Texas match, taking the first set against the No. 7 Longhorns. With the match tied at 1-1, Baylor held a nine-point advantage in the third, but was unable to hold on. Texas then took the fourth set to deter the upset bid.
- Middle blockers Elizabeth Graham and Torri Campbell have helped carry Baylor both offensively and defensively in Big 12 play. In league matches, Graham leads the team in kills (170), hitting percentage (.326) and blocks (72). Meanwhile, Campbell is second in all three categories racking up 143 kills, hitting .279 and recording 49 blocks in BU's 15 conference matches.
- Baylor's back-row defense is ranked third in the NCAA in digs per set, averaging 18.73. BU also leads the Big 12 by a huge margin, posting two digs per set more than any Big 12 team. As a team, Baylor has racked up a league-leading 1,873 total digs on the season. The Bears have 385 more digs than any other Big 12 team in 2010.
- Senior Caitlyn Trice and junior Allison King have led Baylor to its top ranking in digs per set. Trice leads the conference with 5.25 dps, while King is tied for seventh in the league at 4.10. They are the only set of teammates in the top 10 in that category in the Big 12. Meanwhile, Trice's average is on pace to shatter King's single-season digs-per-set record of 4.46 set in 2009.
- After snapping a five-match losing streak to the Wildcats in 2009, the Bears have now taken three in a row in the all-time series. Baylor swept KSU earlier this season.
