Colorado enters the match having lost six of their last seven in Big 12 play, after starting 2-2. The Buffaloes beat Kansas and Kansas State in back-to-back five-set matches earlier this season, then beat Texas Tech in five sets for their third conference win. However, the three conference wins exceed CU's total from all of last season, as they finished league play at 2-18.
The Buffaloes returned just two starters from last season, while bringing in 14 newcomers. Head coach Liz Kritzka made wholesale changes coming into her second year at the helm, holding onto just outside hitter Kerra Schroeder and right side Rosie Steinhaus. Schroeder currently leads CU on offense with 253 kills and 3.89 kills per set. Junior transfer from George Washington, Alyssa Valentine, serves as the team's setter, averaging 8.80 assists per set.
On defense, libero Megan Beckwith is averaging 4.06 digs per set, while Nichole Ludlow leads the team in blocking at 0.83 per set.
THE TOP FIVE
- After sweeping Kansas State last Wednesday, Baylor (11-10, 4-6) had a free weekend with just half of the conference season left on the schedule. The Bears start the second half of Big 12 play with Colorado (6-11, 3-8) coming to the Ferrell Center. Baylor is currently in a sixth-place tie in the league standings with Texas A&M and Kansas, who are both 4-7.
- Baylor's back-row defense moved back into the No. 1 spot in the NCAA in digs per set, averaging 19.05. BU also leads the Big 12 by a huge margin, posting more than three more digs per set than any Big 12 team. As a team, Baylor has racked up a league-leading 1,524 total digs on the season, and is averaging 19.67 digs per set in its 10 conference matches.
- Middle blocker Elizabeth Graham continues to play at the top of her game in conference play. In nine Big 12 matches, the senior is leading the team in kills (107), hitting percentage (.364) and blocks (47). Graham tied a career-high with 15 kills against Kansas, then added 13 more kills against Missouri three days later.
- Senior Caitlyn Trice and junior Allison King have led Baylor to its top ranking in digs per set. Trice leads the conference with 5.35 dps, while King is ranked seventh in the league at 4.15. They are the only set of teammates in the top 10 in that category in the Big 12. Meanwhile, Trice's average is on pace to shatter King's single-season digs-per-set record of 4.46 set in 2009.
- After a 2-21 start to the all-time series with Colorado, Baylor has won the last seven meetings between the schools. The Bears have swept CU five consecutive times.
