To reach the quarterfinals, the junior had received a bye in the round of 128, defeated Abdelhamid Riani of UT-Pan America 6-0, 6-1 in round of 64 play and then dispatched Jon Wiegand of Texas 6-1, 7-6 in the round of 32.
