Men's Tennis Advances 4 in Futures Tourney

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Four of Baylor's seven men's tennis players advanced to the second round of the USTA Futures professional tournament at the Swim & Racquet Center of Boca Raton (FL) on Friday. The tournament is a tuneup for the 2009 collegiate season.
Earning round of 128 victories for the Bears were juniors Denes Lukacs, Dominik Mueller and Attila Bucko, and freshman Julian Bley. Lukacs, Bucko and Bley won easily in straight sets, while Mueller was pushed to three stanzas. Lukacs downed Marcus Tu (USA) 6-1, 6-3, Bucko posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Diallo Jones of Togo and Bley downed Justin Taylor (USA), 6-1, 6-2. Mueller lost the first set of his match 4-6 but rebounded to claim the second in a tiebreaker, 7-6(1), and earned a 6-2 third-set win.
The squad's lone senior, David Galic, seeing his first action of the season after sitting out fall competition, lost to Tennys Sandgren (USA) 6-1, 6-1. Two freshmen Maros Horny and Marc Bruche suffered first-round losses as well. Horny, a midyear transfer from Comenius University in Slovakia, lost in two sets to Valentin Dimov (Bulgaria), 6-2, 6-2, while Bruche was downed by Great Britain's Matthew Short 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(3).
Only eight players out of the 128-player qualifying draw will advance to the main draw of the $10,000 satellite tournament. A player must win four matches to enter the main draw.
