baylor volleyball plays host to colorado
The Baylor volleyball team returns home on Wednesday night as the Bears play host to Colorado at 7 p.m. at the Ferrell Center. The Bears are coming off a 3-1 loss at No. 17 Kansas State on Saturday night. The loss snaps Baylor's three-match Big 12 winning streak. The Bears opened conference play with three-straight wins for the first time in program history. Baylor was led on the night by Anna Breyfogle who tallied 15 kills on .387 hitting and added six total blocks, including one solo. Ashley Byrd tallied a season-high 11 kills on the night, hitting at a .476 clip. Taylor Barnes recorded 42 set assists and added six kills on 10 errorless attacks. The Buffaloes enter the match with an 8-4 overall record, 2-1 in the Big 12. Colorado opened the conference slate with a five-set win at home over Kansas before falling on the road at Kansas State. On Saturday the Buffaloes won a five-set match over Texas A&M. Alex Buth leads the team with 3.23 kills per set, while setter Kaitlyn Burkett averages 10.27 assists per set. Callie Webster averages 3.64 digs per set, while Schylur Edelman leads the team with 41 total blocks. Baylor rallied from a 2-1 deficit as the Bears defeated Colorado 3-2 (30-22, 22-30, 24-30, 30-17, 15-9) on Saturday night at the Ferrell Center. Baylor (11-10, 4-7 Big 12) rallied to down Kansas on the road on Wednesday night, and earned its second five-game win over the Buffs this season on Saturday. Colorado (5-14, 0-11 Big 12) won 13-straight matches against the Bears entering last season, but dropped two decisions to the Bearsin 2007. Baylor earns its first season sweep over the Buffaloes. Katie Sanders tallied 20 kills and hit .333 for the match to lead Baylor. Anna Breyfogle and Amanda Modglin also reached double-figures with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Modglin did not commit a hitting error as she hit at a .565 (13-0-23) clip, while Breyfogle had just two errors on the night, hitting .462 (14-2-26). Taylor Barnes was just two kills away from a triple-double as she tallied eight kills to go along with 53 assists and a career-high 19 digs. Baylor placed a season-best five players in double-figure digs, including Sanders, who tallied her 14th double-double of the season with 16 digs. Sarah Grace recorded 15 digs, while Kristen Schramek and Kelsey Smith added 14 and 11 digs, respectively.
