Men's Tennis Defeats Nebraska

The 13th-ranked Baylor men's tennis team defeated Nebraska 7-0 Friday evening at the Baylor Tennis Center. The win moves Baylor's overall record to 18-8 and its Big 12 mark to 4-1, while Nebraska drops to 10-14 and 0-5.

The Bears took the early lead as they swept through doubles. First off was court two with doubles team Lars Poerschke and Attila Bucko taking a decisive win over Francois Van Impe and Hendrik Stahmer 8-2. Dominik Mueller and Jordan Rux clinched the doubles point for Baylor with their defeat of Mark Tate and Tobias Schneider 8-5. On court one, David Galic and Denes Lukacs were triumphant after taking their match in to a tie-breaker over Calin Paar and David Bendheim 9-8 (3).

"The guys did a great job," said head coach Matt Knoll, "Everyone stayed focused and competed hard. It is difficult to win all the matches but we stayed focused. Hopefully, this will help us to play better."

Claiming the first singles point for the Bears was No.12 Lukacs with a victory over Paar 6-0, 6-1. No.8 Poerschke clinched the match with his defeat of No.94 Bendheim on court one 6-2, 6-4. Bucko and Rux each triumphed over their opponents, giving Baylor two more points. No.113 Galic earned Baylor's last singles point when he came back from a first-set loss to win over Van Impe 5-7, 7-6(3), 10-6.

Baylor wraps up its Big 12 and regular season play with a match against Texas Tech on Saturday, April 19 at 6 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center. A win over the Red Raiders will give the Bears at least a share of the Big 12 regular-season title.
