BAYLOR VOLLEYBALL HITS THE ROAD TO TAKE ON IOWA STATE

The Baylor volleyball team hits the road for its final match in October as the Bears travel to Ames, Iowa to face Iowa State on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. in the Hilton Coliseum. The Bears, coming off a 3-2 loss to No. 13 Kansas State, will battle the Cyclones for sole possession of fourth place in the Big 12 Conference. Baylor won the first two sets against the 13th-ranked Wildcats, but K-State rallied for the win, taking the fifth set 21-19. Katie Sanders leads Baylor with 259 kills this season, while five other Bears have topped 100 kills on the season. Taylor Barnes has collected 762 assists and 33 service aces. Anna Breyfogle leads the conference with 1.55 blocks per set, while freshman Allison King has recorded 299 digs this season and holds a 16-match streak with 10 or more digs. Iowa State enters the contest on a two-match winning streak, upsetting K-State at home on Wednesday night before sweeping Missouri in Ames on Saturday. The Cyclones have won five of their last six matches, including a 3-1 decision over Baylor on Oct. 11 in Waco. Victoria Henson leads the way for Kansas State with 330 kills, while Kaylee Manns has recorded 938 assists. Ashley Mass leads the team with 26 service aces and 409 digs. Jen Malcom blocks at a 1.23 blocks per set average. The match, scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., will have live stats and a subscription-based video webcast on www.Cyclones.com, while a live audio webcast will be available on www.BaylorBears.com.

LAST TIME AGAINST IOWA STATE

Victoria Henson connected on 18 kills, and Jen Malcom added 14 kills as Iowa State rallied to defeat Baylor 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19) at the Ferrell Center. The Bears dropped their first home match after winning its first nine home contests this season. Katie Sanders led the way for Baylor with 13 kills, while Briana Tolbert added nine kills for the Bears. Taylor Barnes added 36 set assists and tallied two service aces. Sanders and Anna Breyfogle also tallied two service aces, while Allison King recorded a match-high 24 digs. Breyfogle and Tolbert each added four total blocks for Baylor.

LAST TIME OUT

The Baylor volleyball team jumped out to a two-set lead, but could not hold on as No. 13 Kansas State rallied to win 3-2 (24-26, 20-25, 25-13, 25-17, 21-19) at the Ferrell Center. Kansas State had the first match-point at 14-13, but Baylor tied the score on a block by Briana Tolbert and Ashley Byrd. The Wildcats jumped in front again at 15-14, but an Anna Breyfogle kill pulled the set even. Baylor earned its first set point on an Ashlie Christenson kill, but the Wildcats tied the score once again. After a K-State match-point, Katie Sanders tied the score at 18 apiece with a kill. Taylor Barnes gave Baylor another set point with a kill on the front row but a Breyfogle service error tied the score at 19-19. Consecutive blocks by the Wildcats gave K-State the win 21-19 in the fifth set. Breyfogle and Sanders led the way for Baylor with 15 kills apiece, while Christenson chipped in nine kills. Tolbert and Byrd each finished with eight kills on the night. Barnes tallied 48 set assists and added a season-high six service aces. Allison King led four players in double-digit digs with 21 digs on the night. Sanders tallied 13 digs, while Brittany Ridenour and Barnes collected 12 and 10 digs, respectively. Baylor struggled with its net defense on the night, recording just five total blocks. K-State was able to put down 14 total blocks for the match.
