WACO, Texas - The Baylor soccer team looks to continue its best start since 2003 as the Bears travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to participate in the fourth-annual Kick Out Cancer Tournament. The Bears open play on Friday, Sept. 7, at 6:00 p.m. against Jacksonville before a meeting with Stetson to close out the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 11:00 a.m.
"We have started out fairly well and it's important we can keep the momentum going," head coach George Van Linder said. "Jacksonville and Stetson are going to present a number of challenges and we will have to be at the top of our game if we want to come away with a pair of wins."
Baylor enters the week with a three-game unbeaten streak after tying UTSA in a midweek contest on Tuesday. Amanda McGrath leads the way for the Bears as the junior has recorded a point in every game this season. Through three games, McGrath leads the team with one goal, three assists and five points as eight separate players have scored for the Bears this season.
Ashley Noah looks to continue her solid play in goal as the senior enters with a 0.70 goals against average after having a hand in two shutouts this year.
The Dolphins (1-1) come in after splitting two games last weekend. They opened the 2007 season with a 4-2 victory over Presbyterian before falling in double-overtime thriller to Indiana, 4-3. Junior forward Keri Zwikker led the way for the Dolphins, scoring four goals and adding an assist en route to being named a top performer in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Stetson (1-0), who will not face the Dolphins this weekend, opened the 2007 season with a 3-2 win over Presbyterian. Senior forward Sarah Stock scored two goals for head coach Julie Orlowski's squad.
Baylor has never faced Stetson or Jacksonville in school history as the Bears soccer program is playing in the state of Florida for the first time ever.
