There was not much change in the Baylor football team's injury situation Friday, as six players missed the Bears full-pad practice on the grass fields at Floyd Casey Stadium.
"The kids are still moving around pretty good and the enthusiasm is good," said Baylor head coach Guy Morriss following his team's ninth workout of fall camp. "They seem to still be working with a purpose which is always good. I know they have to be getting a little weary because I'm already weary and I haven't done anything but stand around. They are still tuned in and working hard."
Junior wide receiver Mikail Baker (hamstring) returned to practice, but was withheld from team situations at the end of the workout as a precaution, as were wide receivers Thomas White (sore quad) and David Gettis (hamstring).
"They (the wide receivers) all came out and went through drills, but we don't want them going full-speed yet with those hams," said Morriss. "We are just going to be real cautious with them."
Senior defensive end Geoff Nelson (left ankle sprain), sophomore offensive tackle Thad Boatner (right knee strain), freshman linebacker Chris Francis (left knee strain), senior offensive guard Ricky Hasoon (back), sophomore quarterback Blake Szymanski (right ankle sprain) and freshman wide receiver Krys Buerck (hamstring), all missed Friday's practice.
Junior quarterback John David Weed took the majority of snaps during the team period and looked sharp according to Morriss.
"He did a good job, that was good to see," said Morriss. "He's got a wing, hasn't he? This is a good opportunity (with Szymanski sidelined with his ankle injury) for John David (Weed) and Michael (Machen) to get that many more reps."
Saturday evening's 6 p.m. practice will include a scrimmage session on the Floyd Casey Stadium turf with local game officials.
"We'll do what we can (tomorrow night) but with all the wide outs down we may just work on the run game tomorrow night, who knows?," said Morriss. "We've got a 30-minute block of time and we'll (the staff) talk about that tomorrow what exactly we are going to do once we see what the personnel situation is. We'll see who can go and adjust it according to that."
