WACO, Texas - Three Nebraska players reached double-figure kills as the second-ranked Cornhuskers defeated Baylor 3-0 (30-11, 30-18, 30-26) on Wednesday night at the Ferrell Center. The match marked the final home contest for seniors Amanda Modglin and Kristen Schramek who were honored prior to the match.
Jordan Larson tallied 12 kills and Tracy Stalls and Sarah Pavan tallied10 kills apiece for Nebraska (26-1, 18-1 Big 12). The Cornhuskers hit at a .319 (49-12-116) clip and registered nine service aces.
Ashlie Christenson and Modglin each recorded seven kills to lead Baylor (14-16, 6-13 Big 12), while Taylor Barnes added five kills. Kelsey Smith and Mady Bates each tallied a service ace for the Bears.
Sarah Grace recorded a team-high 13 digs, while Smith and Barnes added nine and eight digs, respectively. Modglin also recorded three total blocks.
Baylor played tough against Nebraska, with the two teams exchanging the first 13 serves. The Cornhuskers held an 11-8 lead before starting a 16-2 run fueled by three Pavan serves as Nebraska held on for a 30-11 win in game one.
Houghtelling tallied four kills, while Pavan served up four aces in the first game. Baylor got three kills from Christenson.
Nebraska got out early in game two, racing out to an 11-3 lead. With the Cornhuskers leading 25-13, Baylor got three straight points on a block and kills from Barnes and Modglin. Nebraska won three of the final four points to win game two 30-18 on a Pavan kill.
Larson collected six kills in game two for Nebraska, while Pavan added five kills. Modglin and Barnes tallied three kills apiece for Baylor.
Nebraska started quickly in game three, but the Bears kept the game close, trailing by only two points at 15-13. The Cornhuskers built a seven point lead at 22-15 before Baylor rallied to within two points at 28-26. A kill and a service ace gave Nebraska the 30-26 win.
Larson paced Nebraska with five kills, while Tracy Stalls also added five for the Cornhuskers. Modglin tallied four kills for Baylor in game three.
