After drilling in the evening for their first 17 practices, the start of fall classes on the Baylor campus pushed the Bears into their in-season practice routine Tuesday as the team went through a two-hour half-pad workout in the stifling Central Texas heat on the Floyd Casey Stadium grass practice fields.

"We worked some on our two-minute drills tonight, and I thought we were a little raggedy in it," said Baylor coach Guy Morriss. "We were pleased with the first day of it, but we have to get the bumps out of it. What I didn't like was that we had a bad snap, a bad throw and I thought we misidentified a front, just little things like that.

"It seems like when those things happen to us, we still aren't a composed football team," he added. "We seem to get a little nervous. So, I keep trying to preach to these kids that with this offense, the next play can be a strike from anywhere on the field. So, ok you botched the snap and dropped the ball, keep your composure and make the next play. That's just the nature of this animal."

The Bears' injury report was reduced by one on Tuesday as senior linebacker Paul Howard (sore knee) returned to practice. The only players still on the sideline are senior preseason All-America punter Daniel Sepulveda (sore knee) and freshman offensive lineman Dylan Hagens (sore back). There were no new injuries to report from the workout.

The Bears return to the practice field on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. Baylor opens its 2006 season at home on Sept. 3 against No. 22 TCU at 4:30 p.m. in a nationally-televised (Fox Sports Net) contest.
