WACO, Texas - Jon Capron, in his second year full-time on the Baylor cross country and track & field staffs, has been promoted to assistant head cross country coach, head coach Todd Harbour announced Tuesday.

"Jon is very deserving of his new role, as he was outstanding in his first year and during his time as a graduate assistant," Harbour said. "He stands for everything Baylor is about, and he has been a vital part of our team - both as a coach and an athlete - for a long time."

Last season, Capron helped Harbour guide the women to a 15th-place showing at the NCAA Cross Country Championships and a runner-up finish at the NCAA South Central Regional. During the track season, he coached three women to All-Big 12 honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, including Monique Ortega, who earned All-Midwest Region honors and qualified for the NCAA Championships.

A standout during his collegiate career, Capron was a top runner on the cross country team and still owns part of the school record in the 4x800-meter relay. Like the other five full-time coaches on the track & field staff, Capron is a Baylor graduate.
