WACO, Texas - The Baylor volleyball team recorded its highest spring grade-point average ever with a collective 3.32, its second-highest for any semester since 1999, and saw four student-athletes earn their undergraduate degrees.
Melanie Hamerly (Orange, Texas), who earned a perfect 4.0 in her final semester, Kelly Spriggs (Houston, Texas), Emily Huston (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Desiree Guilliard-Young (Berkeley, Calif.) each participated in commencement ceremonies on May 13. Guilliard-Young still has one year of eligibility remaining and will return to the team in the fall as she begins graduate school courses.
All seven of the Bears' returning letterwinners - Guilliard-Young, Nicole LeBlanc (Tampa, Fla.), Mandy Elliott (Richmond, Texas), Adeline Meira (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Amanda Modglin (Houston, Texas), Kristen Schramek (San Antonio, Texas) and Deja Sweeney (Sacramento, Calif.) - were named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll while in season last fall.
LeBlanc led the way for the returnees, earning a perfect 4.0 GPA in the spring semester. Of the 10 returning Bears overall, which includes two redshirt freshmen and one transfer, all but one had a GPA of 3.0 or higher and five had a GPA of 3.6 or higher.
