Men's Tennis Sends Two to Second Round

TULSA, Okla. - Freshmen Denes Lukacs and Dominik Mueller won their first round qualifying matches in the Polo Ralph Lauren Men's All-American Tennis Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa, in Tulsa, Okla., today. The tournament, hosted annually since 1979, will be held for the second straight year at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the Tulsa campus.

Mueller, ranked No. 121 took the court first for the Bears in Tulsa. The University of Hawaii's Sascha Heineman won the first set of the matchup 6-3 before Mueller claimed the match with 6-4, 6-4 wins in the second and third sets. Mueller will now face Utah's Zach Ganger a 7-6(4), 6-2, 6-4 winner over Robbert Lathouwers of Auburn. The match begins at 8 a.m.

The 110th-ranked Lukacs had an easier time of it with his opponent Claudio Christen of Arizona. Lukacs breezed to a 6-3 6-3 win and will take to the court at 9:30 a.m. versus Ohio State's Chris Klingemann who advanced to the second round with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Jean Yves Aubone of Florida State.

Sophomore Matt Brown, ranked No. 82, didn't fare as well as Mueller and Lukacs as he was eliminated from competition by Blake Boswell of Boise State who had advanced to the qualifying draw through the prequalifying draw. Boswell won in straight sets 7-5, 6-1.

Senior Michal Kokta already has a spot in the tournament's main draw where action begins on Oct. 5. Kokta, ranked No. 23, comes into the tournament with a 6-0 singles record after claiming the championship of last weekend's Baylor-HEB Intercollegiate. Kokta and sophomore David Galic, currently ranked No. 24, will team up in the main draw doubles bracket.
