WACO, Texas - The No. 7 Baylor men's tennis team defeated No. 36 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 5-2 today at the Baylor Tennis Center. This marks the 61st consecutive win for the Bears at home.

The Bears came out strong sweeping the doubles point to take the early lead over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Baylor's Lars Poerschke and Vladimir Portnov nailed down an 8-2 victory over Jose Ycaza and Joey Farias and the duo of Michal Kokta and Will Ward defeated Mike Pavlov and Andrey Kumantso 8-1 to clench the doubles point for the Bears. No. 31 ranked Matija Zgaga and Jon Reckewey also posted a doubles win for Baylor defeating Raul Morant-Rivas and Jose Zunino 8-5.

In singles action, Ward took the first win for the Bears defeating Jan Cingel in a 6-1, 6-1 match. Matt Brown followed shortly after with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ycaza. Zgaga fell to No. 50 Andrey Kumantso in the No. 1 spot 2-6, 2-6 making the score 3-1.

No. 1 Lars Poerschke clenched the match for the Bears defeating Mike Pavlov in 6-4, 6-3 sets. Baylor's fifth point came when No. 94 Vladimir Portnov defeated Jose Zunino in a hard fought tiebreaker match 6-4, 7-6 (7).

The Bears return to action Sunday as they take on No. 2 Florida at 1 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center. Live results will be posted at www.baylorbears.com.
