HOUSTON - Baylor junior Michal Kokta won two championships in the 9th Annual Rice/Downtown Club at the Met Collegiate Indoor Invitational in Houston on Sunday. Kokta won the singles title then teamed with freshman Will Ward to claim the doubles championship.
Kokta made quick work of Rice's Ralph Knupfer in the singles title match, disposing of the Owl in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. With the victory, Kokta extended his win streak to 10 matches, he won the University of Texas Invitational in late October and followed that up with five wins in this tournament.
Kokta teamed with Ward in doubles and breezed to an 8-2 win over fellow teammates Matt Brown and David Galic to claim the championship.
The seventh-ranked Bears will begin dual match play on Friday, Jan. 27 when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, currently ranked No. 36, at 2 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center.
