The Baylor football team went through a 90-minute workout in shells Saturday morning on the Floyd Casey turf, then hosted its annual fan event, Meet the Bears, in the afternoon.
"It went all right this morning, but right now their minds are on moving out (of the hotel and into the dorms) to be honest with you," said Baylor coach Guy Morriss.
Saturday's practice was the 17th since the Bears reported to campus on Aug. 7 and hit the field for the first time the following day. The players, who have not had an off-day since camp opened, have Sunday off before classes begin at Baylor on Aug. 22. The team will hold Monday's practice at 8 p.m., then return to its normal in-season workout time of 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
"We are pretty close to where we need to be," said Morriss. "We've got two weeks left (before the opener at SMU). From an offensive standpoint, we've got to become more consistent in our execution like we've been talking about all camp. We'll have a good practice and then come back the next practice and kind of go through the motions.
"We've got to crank it every time we step on the field," he added. "I've seen our defense do a better job of that. I think some of that started with Colin (Allred) and it's been contagious. They are policing themselves pretty good. M.T. (Robinson), Montez (Murphy) and C.J. (Wilson) I hear all the time. It's been all of them on that side of the ball holding each other accountable, which is good to see."
The Bears return to the practice field on Monday at 8 p.m. on the Floyd Casey Stadium turf. All practices are open to the public and the media.
Baylor opens its 2005 season Sept. 3 at SMU.
