The Baylor football team completed a pair of workouts Wednesday on the grass practice fields, working in full pads in the morning and shells in the afternoon. It marked the third of four two-a-day sessions slated for the Bears in fall camp.
"We pulled the full pads off and put them in shells for the afternoon and that kind of perked them up a little bit," said Baylor coach Guy Morriss. "We also shortened both practices about 10 minutes each, which helped."
Baylor will work in full pads Thursday morning, then hold the last of its four two-a-day sessions Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by an evening practice under the Floyd Casey Stadium lights. On Saturday, the Bears will hold a normal practice in the morning prior to their annual Meet the Bears activity for the fans from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the stadium.
"We are starting to get bruised, bumps and nicked up pretty good, so we aren't going to do much in the way of scrimmaging," Morriss said. "We still have to do some 9-on-7 and that kind of thing, but we are not going to cut them loose.
"The thing that hurts by not scrimmaging is the tackling, the wrapping up and things like that," he added. "Scrimmages can help you condition, but we are trying to do enough, six, seven and eight play drives during team to help the conditioning. I'd rather be cautious with it because we can't afford to get anyone hurt."
The Bears return to work Thursday at 9:30 a.m. All practices are open to the media and the public.
