Coach Guy Morriss' Baylor football team returned to practice Tuesday with a 90-minute morning workout in full pads on the grass practice fields at Floyd Casey Stadium. It marked the Bears' fourth consecutive full-pad session and their sixth in their last seven workouts since last Friday.
"We cut the time back to keep their legs under them and keep them sharp," said Morriss. "We worked a lot on special teams this morning, which was good.
"We had been banging pretty good, so we just wanted to take some of the hitting out and let them get their legs back a bit," he added. "We'll come back tomorrow with a good two-a-day."
With classes starting on the Baylor campus next Monday and fall camp ending Saturday, Morriss would like to see his squad's execution on both sides of the ball improve in its six remaining practices this week.
"We have to work to be more consistent," Morriss said. "We have a good play or two and then we mess something up and set ourselves back. We have to keep thinking consistent play in the back of our mind."
2004 Ray Guy Award winner Daniel Sepulveda (Dallas, Texas) was named to Sports Illustrated's 2005 preseason All-America squad released in the publication's Aug. 15 college football preview issue. It marked the second first-team preseason All-America honor squad for Sepulveda, who earlier landed a spot on The Sporting News' team and was rated as the nation's No. 1 punter by the same publication.
A consensus 2004 first-team All-Big 12 performer, Sepulveda ranked No. 2 in the Big 12 and No. 3 nationally in punting (46.0 ypp). His 44.3 ypp career average ranks No. 4 among active Division I-A punters and is the best-ever by a Bear. He was also selected to the 2005 Football Writers Association of America Preseason All-America Checklist and earned second-team preseason All-America honors from both Athlon Sports and Phil Steele's College Football Preview.
Baylor will return to practice with workouts on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. All practices are open to the media and the public.
