With its 2005 season-opener at SMU three weeks away, the Baylor football team completed the first of four two-a-day practice sessions Saturday afternoon on the Floyd Casey Stadium turf. The Bears drilled in full pads for the morning workout on the grass practice fields, then worked in shells for their afternoon workout on the turf.

"I think right now the defense is ahead of the offense," said Baylor coach Guy Morriss. "Offensively, I believe we need to find a little more urgency. We can't seem to get in sync right now or find much rhythm. We need some guys to step up and get us in that groove, if you will.

"I know it is still early, but I want to see more urgency from these guys (the offense)," he added. "We can't spot anyone a quarter or a half and expect to be in the ball game. We have to be ready from the get-go.

Saturday began a stretch of 12 practices in eight days for the Bears. Baylor will workout once on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday with double sessions slated for Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week.

"We need become more consistent with our execution right now," Morriss said. "Again, it is just a matter of finding that groove. We are still adding some wrinkles, so their brains are spinning a little bit and that kind of thing. I believe we have enough time and veteran players that we'll get there."

Baylor true freshman Queito Teasley (Katy, Texas), rated as the nation's 45th-best athlete by Rivals.com as a prep senior at Cinco Ranch High School, started fall camp as running back but has since been working at wide receiver.

"It (moving Teasley) was kind of in reaction to David (Gettis) not being here yet and Nate (Cook) not being able to practice," Morriss said. "We don't know if Nate is going to be eligible or not, so we have to cover ourselves there.

"Queito would have started fourth or fifth on the depth chart at running back, but he's got enough speed and he can catch the ball well enough that me might figure in the rotation at wide receiver, so that's where we are going to train him at," Morriss said.

Baylor will return to work on Sunday afternoon with a 4 p.m. practice before holding its second two-a-day of fall camp on Monday. All practices are open to the public and the media.

Notes: True freshman wide receiver David Gettis (Los Angeles, Calif.) remains in a holding pattern as he awaits a decision on his status from the NCAA Clearinghouse ... No. 1 left tackle Travis Farst (Cedar Park, Texas) missed both workouts on Saturday after reinjuring his right knee during Friday's workout ... Senior tackle Evan Stone (Buffalo, Texas), who started seven games at right tackle as a junior in 2004, worked at left tackle in place of Farst on Saturday ... Redshirt freshman wide receiver Thomas White (Plano, Texas) missed his third straight day of practice with a hamstring injury he sustained during Thursday's workout ... Redshirt freshman Justin Osinde (Arlington, Texas) remained sidelined with a knee strain he sustained on the first day of practice ... Both season and single-game tickets for Baylor's five-game home schedule are on sale through the school's Athletic Ticket Office (1-800-BAYLOR-U) ... Baylor's annual Meet the Bears Day is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 20, at 1 p.m. at Floyd Casey Stadium.
