AUSTIN, Texas - The top-ranked Baylor men's tennis team improved to 23-0, 5-0 conference, Wednesday as the Bears defeated No. 39 Texas 6-1 at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center in Austin. The Longhorns fall to 9-7, dropping their fourth-straight conference match.
The Bears took an early lead over the Longhorns by taking two of three doubles matches. Baylor defeated Texas on courts one and two, but lost the third-court match in the tiebreaker.
Baylor then dominated Texas in singles action by taking five of six matches. After dropping the first set, No. 28 Benjamin Becker bounced back to defeat No. 36 Callum Beale in the second court, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Senior Benedikt Dorsch, the top-ranked player in college tennis, continued his winning ways by grabbing his 15th win of the season in the No. 1 court. The win is his 22nd overall, while extending his winning streak to seven.
In the fifth court, Matija Zgaga matched a season high and current team high, eight-match wining steak. He defeated Luis Diaz Barriga 6-4, 7-6 to take the match.
Baylor returns to action Saturday as the Bears travel to Lubbock to face Texas Tech. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
