COLUMBUS, Ohio - Baylor's Lars Poerschke blew through the first round of singles today at the ITA National Indoors in Columbus, Ohio advancing into the round of 16. Baylor's doubles team of Matija Zgaga and Jon Reckewey fell in first round play moving them into the consolation bracket.
No. 25 Poerschke, the number three seed in the tournament, defeated No.120 Bryan Koniecko of host school Ohio State in a three-set 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory. Poerschke will take on No. 26 Luigi D'Agord of Miami in the round of 16 tomorrow afternoon.
With this win, Poerschke improves his season record to 10-1overall, 6-1 against ranked opponents.
In doubles, the team of Zgaga and Reckewey fell in the round of 16 to the number three seeded team of Raian Luchici and Brad Pomeroy of North Carolina. Luchici and Pomeroy hold down the No. 51 spot in ITA preseason rankings. Zgaga and Reckewey will continue play in the consolation doubles bracket tomorrow afternoon.
