WACO, Texas -- Baylor senior linebacker Colin Allred and junior punter Daniel Sepulveda earned Big 12 Conference Player of the Week honors following the Bears' season-finale 44-34 victory over Oklahoma State last Saturday. Allred was honored on defense, while Sepulveda was honored on special teams. Texas Tech running back Taurean Henderson was honored on offense.
Allred tallied nine tackles, including 1.5 for losses of nine yards, against the Cowboys. He also had a sack and returned an interception 25 yards for his first career touchdown. That interception return gave Baylor a 35-0 lead midway through the second quarter, the Bears' largest lead at any point in a game since 1989.
Sepulveda, who ranks second nationally and first in the Big 12 with 46.18 yards per punt, posted a 51.7-yard average with a 46.2-yard net average on six punts against Oklahoma State. His shortest punt of the day, a 42-yarder, pinned the Cowboys at their own 17 yard line. Sepulveda had three punts of 50-plus yards, including a 68-yarder; it was the third-longest punt of his career and his sixth punt of 60-plus yards this season.
This is the first time Baylor has produced two Big 12 Conference Players of the Week in the same week. Allred and Sepulveda are the second and third weekly honorees from Baylor this season; place kicker Ryan Havens was so honored in October after converting three field goals against Iowa State.
Baylor finished the 2005 season 5-6 overall and 2-6 in Big 12 play, the Bears' most successful season since 1995. During the 2005 campaign, Baylor snapped a 24-game road losing streak, won its first Big 12 road game and posted multiple Big 12 wins in the same season for the first time ever.
