WACO, Texas - Baylor Men's Tennis' Lars Poerschke was defeated in the championship match at the Polo Ralph Lauren ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. today making his season record 9-1.
After blowing past some of the toughest competition in the nation, Poerschke was finally defeated by No. 4 ranked John Isner of Georgia in a hard-fought, 7-6(4), 7-6(3) decision.
After coming in at No.25 in the preseason rankings, Poerschke proved himself among the top 10 in the nation throughout this tournament. Poerschke took down No. 3 Ben Kohlloeffel of UCLA in the round of 16, 7-5, 6-4.He then moved into the quarterfinals where he defeated No. 5 Jerry Makowski of Texas A&M 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
In the semifinals round, Poerschke upset No. 1 Ryler DeHeart of Illinois in a two-set match 6-1, 6-2 to move him into the finals match-up with Isner.
Poerschke's performance in the tournament gives Baylor seven appearances in Grand Slam singles finals over the last five years, that's more than four above runner-up Illinois. Other events in the Grand Slam include the ITA National Indoor Championship and the NCAA Championships.
Next up for Poerschke will be the Midland Invitational taking place Oct.14-16.
