WACO, Texas - Baylor football players Phil Tran and Paul Mosley visited Bosqueville Junior High on Friday during Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week stresses the importance of living a drug-free life. The players spoke to an assembly of 7th and 8th grade classes to promote healthy lifestyles and discuss the dangers of using drugs.
Tran and Mosley emphasized to the students they are Baylor football players because they grew up living a healthy lifestyle and did not use drugs. They encouraged the students to pursue their ambitions and to stay away from unnecessary and dangerous risks.
Mosley said, "the biggest thing is to take control of your own life so you can eventually do what you want to do, the choice is yours."
Tran and Mosley then posed questions to the audience to review material learned during Red Ribbon Week. Students who answered questions correctly first got to catch a pass thrown by one of the players.
Before concluding with the "Sic `em Bears" yell, Tran added, "if you see a friend go down the wrong path and get involved with drugs, you better take the person aside and put your friend back on the straight path. It might get personal and there can be some hurt feelings, but it is far better than seeing your friend involved with drugs."
This school visit concludes Red Ribbon Week and is just one example of how Baylor athletes and coaches are involved in the Waco community. For more information, please contact Ray DeWeese at (254) 710-3073.
