Men's Tennis' Kokta Wins Singles Title

AUSTIN, Texas - Baylor Men's Tennis' Michal Kokta won the singles championship match at the University of Texas Fall Invitational today in Austin, Texas.

Kokta, No. 63 in ITA preseason rankings, started out the tournament defeating Texas Tech's Michael Beler 6-4, 6-1 in the round of 32 on Friday morning then defeated Sandy Farquharson of UT Arlington 7-5, 6-2 that afternoon to advance to the quarterfinal round.

Saturday, Kokta took on Texas A&M's Matt Bain in the quarterfinal match posting a 7-6, 6-0 victory. In the semifinals, Kokta upset # 21 Bojan Szumansi of Texas Tech in a 6-4, 6-2 decision advancing him into the championship match.

Kokta faced # 22 Travis Helgeson of Texas this morning winning the championship match with a two-set, 7-6, 6-3 victory.

Also competing for the Bears this weekend, Vladimir Portnov advanced to the quarterfinal round in his bracket before being knocked out by No. 103 Milan Mihailovic of Texas. Matt Brown also competed this weekend making it to the round of 16 before falling to Tech's No. 21 Bojan Szumanski.
