WACO, Texas --The Baylor women's cross country team placed three runners on the all-conference squad and raced to a third-place finish while the men finished in 12th-place in action at the 2005 Big 12 Cross Country Championships on Friday.
Junior Brittany Brockman, freshman Erin Bedell and sophomore Lauren Hagans each finished in the top 15 to earn all-conference honors and lead the Baylor women to their second highest finish in school history.
"I was extremely pleased with the way both teams came out and competed," head coach Todd Harbour said. "Our women's team had one of its best Big 12 performances ever and to have three of our women's runners earn all-conference honors is a tremendous accomplishment."
For the fifth time this season, Brockman led the way for Baylor as the junior finished fourth overall with a time of 20:42. Erin Bedell was the second Baylor runner to cross the night as the freshman finished second among Big 12 newcomers and eighth overall with a time of 21:08.
Hagans rounded out Baylor's all-conference performers as the sophomore raced to a 14th-place finish with a time of 21:25.
Monique Ortega, who finished 19th with a time of 21:45, and Brittany McGuire, who finished 24th with a time of 21:52, rounded out the scoring for the Bears.

On the men's side, Jacob Jones led the way for a young Baylor squad, crossing the line first for the Bears with a time of 26:10 over the 8,000-meter course to finish 68th overall.
Rey Hinojosa crossed the line second for the Bears, finishing 73rd with a time of 26:19.
Jordan Hiller (84th, 26:47), John Wenhold (88th, 26:58) and Hunter Garner (93rd, 27:33) rounded out the scoring for the Bears.
Colorado claimed the men's and women's team titles as Kansas' Benson Chesang won his second consecutive men's individual title while Christine Bolf of Colorado claimed the women's individual title.
The Baylor cross country team will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 12, when the Bears will host the NCAA South Central Regional at Cottonwood Creek Golf Club.
