WACO, Texas - Member's of the Baylor men's tennis team defeated opponents in singles and doubles play to advance into next round action yesterday at the Wilson/ITA South Central Regional Championship in College Station, Texas.
Baylor's four tournament participants all received first round byes advancing them into second round action. Michal Kokta started things strong for the Bear's taking down Billy Heim of Tulane in a 6-2, 6-0 match. Matija Zgaga defeated Nigel Barton, also of Tulane, in a three-set match 6-7, 6-1, 6-3.
Baylor's Matt Brown also advanced defeating UT Arlington's Alberto Agis in a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 decision. Jon Reckewey also posted a win for the Bears in a two-set match against Alberto Sottocorno of Tulane 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles, Baylor's teams of Kokta/Brown and Zgaga/Reckewey received first round byes. Kokta/ Brown defeated Robin Fernandes and Anthony Portois of UT San Antonio 8-4. Zgaga and Reckewey defeated Texas Tech's Christian Rojmar and Teddy Dibalsi in a close 9-8 match.
