MIDLAND, Texas - The five Bears participating in the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational were eliminated this afternoon after playing two days of singles and doubles.
In women's singles action, Iva Mihaylova defeated UCLA's Tracey Lin 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the first round. Mihaylova lost her second match against SMU's Natalia Bubien 5-7, 6-7 (7). Zuzana Krchnakova lost in her first round match 6-0, 5-7, 10-4 to Erica Valdez from Tulane. In the consolation second round, Krchnakova lost to Pepperdine's Eva Dickes 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.
The two women also competed in doubles but unfortunately fell in the first round to SMU's Bubien and Svetlana Kouzmenko 8-5.
In men's singles action, yesterday Matt Brown defeated UTA's Ian Vasquez 6-1, 6-1 but fell in the next round to Robert Searle of Rice 6-4, 6-3. Jon Reckewey lost to Duke's Chris Brown 7-6, 2-6, 7-6. In consolation Reckewey also lost to Daniel Omana from UTA 6-4, 2-6, 7-6. Finally, Michal Kokta won two matches. First he defeated Texas Tech's Adrian Prpic 6-3, 6-1 and in the next round beat Tulane's David Goulep 6-2, 6-3.
Today, Kokta played Roger Gubser of Texas but was defeated 7-6, 7-5. His match concluded Baylor's involvement in the tournament.
The women return to action Friday, Oct. 21 at the ITA Southwest Region Championship, and men pick up play on Oct. 21 also at the UTA Regional.
