The 4-1 Baylor football team concluded its preparations for Saturday's 6:05 p.m. home game against the 4-1 Nebraska Cornhuskers with a two-hour practice in half-pads on the Floyd Casey Stadium turf Thursday afternoon.
"We've had a good week of practice," said Baylor coach Guy Morriss. "The players are excited to be playing at home this weekend against a very good Nebraska team."
Tickets for Saturday's game against the Huskers continued to sell at a brisk rate Thursday. The Baylor Athletic Ticket Office will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. until kickoff Saturday. All tickets are priced at $35 each.
Fans attending Saturday's game are urged to arrive early in anticipation of a large crowd. Snickers Touchdown Alley opens at 4 p.m., where Baylor legend Mike Singletary will be on hand to sign autographs in the First National Bank of Central Texas Champions Tent from 4-4:30 p.m. An autograph card will be provided and only one item per person will be signed.
In addition, Baylor fans can cast their vote for Bruiser for Capital One Mascot of the Year and meet two former Baylor football greats, when Capital One's Mobile Mascot Tour makes a stop at Snickers Touchdown Alley prior to Saturday's game. Bruiser is among 12 college mascots named to the fourth annual Capital One All-America Mascot Team. Now through Nov. 21, the All-Americans are contending in a weekly head-to-furry-head competition for the ultimate title of Capital One Mascot of the Year. Fan voting at www.capitalonebowl.com will determine who is crowned Mascot of the Year.
The Mobile Mascot Tour exhibit will be open from 4 to 6 p.m. at Snickers Touchdown Alley. The tour stops at each All-American's campus to offer fans the ultimate mascot experience, including photo opportunities, mascot facts and statistics, voting stations, interactive games such as the football toss and mascot skills challenge, and more. The Baylor stop is the tour's seventh appearance this season on a college campus.
Bruiser will be taking photos with fans, urging them to cast their votes and signing autographs from 4 to 5 p.m. at the exhibit. Former Baylor and NFL standouts Alfred Anderson and Vann McElroy will be signing autographs from 5 to 6 p.m.
At 4:45 p.m. on the East side of Floyd Casey Stadium a celebration to mark the completion of the "I Believe Walkway" will he held. The program will include remarks from Baylor Interim President Bill Underwood, Director of Athletics Ian McCaw, Grant Teaff, the winningest football coach in Baylor history, and Singletary.
Singletary, a member of both the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame, will be honored as the Baylor Legend of the Game between the first and second quarters, and the Bears' 1980 Southwest Conference championship team will be saluted at halftime.
Notes: Baylor may be without the services of two starters for Saturday's game against the Huskers, as junior outside safety Maurice Linguist (turf toe) and junior offensive guard Yancy Boatner (hip flexor) are listed as questionable for the contest ... Honorary captains for the Nebraska game as selected by the Baylor coaching staff for their performances against Iowa State are senior center Glen Oskin on offense, senior defensive tackle Michael Gary on defense and senior outside safety Willie Andrews on special teams ... Baylor hasn't had a home crowd of better than 40,000 for a game that did not involve either Texas or Texas A&M since 42,327 fans were on hand for the Bears' 42-10 victory over Oregon State, Sept. 21, 1996.
