Becker Moves into NCAA Quarterfinals

WACO, Texas - Benjamin Becker advanced to the quarterfinals in singles in the NCAA Men's Tennis Championsips in Tulsa, Okla., at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center but the doubles tandem of Benedikt Dorsch and Matija Zgaga was eliminated by the tournament's top-seeded doubles team.

Becker, ranked No. 15, defeated third-seeded and third-ranked Jeremy Wurtzman of Ohio State in straight sets in the round of 16, 6-1, 7-5, to move on to the quarterfinals. He will take on Florida's Hamid Mirzadeh, like Becker a 9-16 seed, at 1 p.m., on Saturday. With the win, Becker extended his win streak to eight matches and is now 41-9 on the season and 21-6 against ranked players. He has now defeated three top10-ranked players this season.

Dorsch and freshman Matija Zgaga, ranked 20th nationally, lost to the tournament's top-seeded duo of Richard and William Barker of Rice on Friday. The Baylor tandem took the first set 6-4, but dropped the final two sets, 6-3, 6-2. With the loss, Dorsch and Zgaga finished the season with a 15-4 record saw their eight-match win streak come to an end.
