NORMAN, Okla. - Baylor's men's tennis team took one step closer to its third straight Big 12 Tournament title Friday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla., with a 4-0 victory over Nebraska. With the victory the Bears advanced to the semifinals of the league championships.
Baylor, ranked No. 2 nationally and the tournament's top seeded team, raised its record to 24-2 on the season while Nebraska dropped to 9-13. The Bears will play the winner of the Oklahoma/Oklahoma State match on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Baylor's doubles teams at courts two and three each won their matches and gained the doubles point for the Bears. Benjamin Becker and Matias Marin, ranked No. 24, beat Joel Reckewey and Justin Junck, 8-3, to extend their win streak to 12 matches. Reiner Neurohr and Ivor Lovrak defeated their Husker opponents, Gerhard Posch and Ryan Jay 8-3 as well.
The men's team took the exact same path in singles to secure the win as did the Baylor women's team earlier in the day, winning at No. 1, 5 and 6. Ivor Lovrak was first off the court for the Bears with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 6 over Joel Reckewey. Reiner Neurohr, at No. 5, dealt James Clow a 6-1, 6-2 defeat the third-ranked Benedikt Dorsch closed out the match for the Bears with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph at No. 1.
