WACO, Texas - The third-ranked Baylor men's tennis team suffered its second loss of the season when the No. 13 USC Trojans dealt the Bears a 4-3 defeat at USC's Marks Tennis Stadium on Saturday. The loss drops Baylor to 8-2 on the season while the Trojans move up to 7-1.
The Trojans swept all three doubles matches and clinched the doubles point when Drew Hoskins and Daniel Langre outlasted 32nd-ranked Benedikt Dorsch and Ivor Lovrak, winning 9-8 after outscoring the Baylor duo 9-7 in the tiebreaker.
Dorsch, Benjamin Becker and Matija Zgaga each claimed a point for the Bears with singles wins at court 1, 2 and 4, respectively. USC's Joahn Berg, ranked No. 84, clinched the match for the Trojans with a win over Matias Marin at No. 3. Zgaga's victory over No. 68 Ruben Torres, gave the unranked freshman, three straight wins over ranked opponents. He defeated Kentucky's Evan Austin, ranked No. 81 and UCLA's Chris Lam, ranked No. 61.
The Bears will remain in southern California and play Pepperdine on Sunday at 1 p.m. (CST).
