WACO, Texas - Baylor senior Matias Marin of Rosario, Argentina, and Colorado freshman Lynzee Kever of Oklahoma City, Okla., have been chosen as Big 12 Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week for matches from Feb. 10-16, 2004, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Marin paced the Bears to a Big 12-opening 7-0 win over Colorado by sweeping the Buffaloes' Peter Bjork 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and then teaming with Jason Gould for a triumph at No. 1 doubles by an 8-1 margin. The Baylor standout has been one of the unsung heroes for a Bears' program ranked as high as No. 2 nationally in this spring campaign. Marin is the second straight Baylor player to earn league player of the week honors, Benedikt Dorsch was last week's recipient.

Kever, who prepped at Shawnee Mission (Kan.) East HS, downed the No. 1 singles players for both Texas Tech and Texas in Big 12 dual matches last week. She decisioned No. 31-nationally and Big 12 2003 Preseason Freshman of the Year Petra Dizdar 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 and ousted Texas Tech's All-Big 12 senior Irina Tereschenko 7-6, 1-6, 6-4. The latter victory started the Buffaloes on their way to a 5-2 league win over the Lady Raiders. Kever raised her 2004 record to 5-1 in singles and 4-2 in doubles after her inaugural intraconference activity.
