WACO, Texas-The Baylor cross country teams return to action this weekend for the first of three championship races when the Bears run at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships at the Stateland Cross Country Course in Topeka, Kan. The women take the course first, running a 6,000-meter race at 10:00 a.m. with the men to follow with a 8,000-meter race at 11:00 a.m.
"We are looking forward to the challenge," head coach Todd Harbour said. "We have been overcoming a lot of injuries and are looking for a good performance. Hopefully, we will be able to duplicate what we accomplished last season."
Last season, Baylor had a strong showing at the championships as the women raced to a fifth-place finish while the men finished fifth. Brittany Brockman returns for the Bears this season after earning all-conference honors at the race last year; however, Cornelius is battling an injury and is questionable to run this weekend.
On the men's side, Bo Price leads the Bears and is looking for his second consecutive all-conference selection after finishing 12th at the championships last season. Rob Morrow and Cody Wells also had strong showings at the meet last season as the duo finished 49th and 52nd, respectively.
The women's team comes into the meet after a strong showing at the NCAA Pre-Nationals where the Bears finished in 14th. Brockman led the way for the women at the meet as the sophomore raced to a 13th-place finish, the highest of any Big 12 runner, over the 6,000-meter course. In addition, Jessa Chance had her best showing of the year for the Bears as the senior finished in 63rd-place.
On the men's side, Price led the way for the Bears the last time out with his time of 30:20.1 over the 10,000-meter course to finish in 16th place at the Chile Pepper Invitational. The performance helped lead the men's team to a seventh-place finish at the meet.
Following the meet, the Bears will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 13, when Baylor hosts the NCAA South Central Regional meet at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course.
