Men's Tennis Begins Spring Season

Waco, Texas - Baylor is sending three players to compete in the first tournament of the spring season at the fourth annual Sherwood Collegiate Cup at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California this weekend. Two of the six teams competing are ranked in the ITA top five nationally with Baylor at No. 2 and Stanford at No.5. The rest of the competition includes UCLA at No. 12, Southern California at No. 21, and San Diego State University at No. 42.

Benjamin Becker, the ITA ranked No. 5 player and No. 2 seed in the tournament faces a yet-to-be named qualifier. Baylor's Matias Marin the No. 6 seed faces USC's Johan Berg, the No. 5 seed, and Reiner Neurohr faces Daniel Langre of USC. All singles matches begin at 2:30 p.m. PST on Friday.

In doubles competition, Becker and Marin are partnered to face John Pettit and Daniel Sebesoan of the University of California-Berkeley Saturday.

The tournament will run Jan. 16-19 and consists of a 32-player singles bracket, 16 doubles teams, and a singles consolation draw.
